In Memory of Maryam Mohammadi: Honoring a Survivor of the Sayed Al-Shuhada School Attack

It is with profound sadness that we have learned of the passing of Maryam Mohammadi, one of the survivors of the tragic attack on the Sayed Al-Shuhada Girls' School in western Kabul. After enduring more than four years of severe physical injuries and prolonged suffering, Maryam passed away on 1 October 2025. Maryam was critically injured during the attack on 8 May 2021, when a series of explosions targeted the Sayed Al-Shuhada Girls' School in the predominantly Hazara neighborhood of Dasht-e-Barchi, Kabul. The attack resulted in the deaths of 85 schoolgirls and left more than 147 others injured. The victims were primarily girls between the ages of 6 and 18 who had been attending school in pursuit of their education.
