Statement of the Movement of Afghanistan Women in Exile On the Occasion of the International Day of Democracy – 15 September 2025

The International Day of Democracy serves as a reminder of the fundamental values of freedom, equality, human dignity, and the meaningful participation of all people in shaping their political and social future. Yet, in Afghanistan today, these principles have been systematically dismantled. Women and girls, who constitute half of the country's population, have been deprived not only of their rights to education, employment, and public participation, but have also been effectively stripped of their status as equal citizens. Afghanistan has entered one of the darkest chapters of its history, where the principles of democracy are fundamentally denied.
